March 11, 2012 FUNdraiser a HIT!
On March 11, 2012, the Arts Bus held its spring FUNdraiser at Chandler Center for the Arts, from 2pm to 6pm and the event raised almost $2300. Musicians who donated their talents for the stage show included: Chris Smith; the Joe Schenkman Trio with Jake Wildwood and Tim Christiano; Barry Vermont Miller and Dar Lynn Tredwell and Jon Gailmor. Many area artists and businesses donated items and gift certificates for the Silent Auction and Friends of Kimball Library provided baked goods for the Bake Sale (bake sale contributors included: Betsy Cantlin, Amy Grasmick, Judith Flint, Sharon Rives, Adele Smith, Bernadette Knippler and Carole Brobst). Three mini-plays, written by the children enrolled in the Arts Bus Drama Club, were also presented on Chandler's main stage: "The Talking Pickle", "Do You Believe in Magic?" and "Rainbow Pigs". The children designed the costumes, sets and makeup for the plays; they also experienced what it is like to do tech work and direct. Pictures below were taken at the event.
Arts Bus Visits Towns Hit Hard by Storm Irene
In the aftermath of Storm Irene, the Arts Bus visited the towns of Bethel, Rochester, Stockbridge and South Royalton and offered an activity designed to help children and families express their thoughts and feelings concerning their experiences during the flooding, and afterwards. Artist Jennie Harriman asked participants to create pictures, or write stories/poems in reponse to the question: What is different about Vermont since the storm?. The pictures give voice to emotions not always easy to express verbally, although the captions are direct quotes from the artists.
